Warren County Waltonian Defenders of Soil, Air, Woods, Waters and Wildlife December 2022 Holiday Issue
Season’s Greetings and Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving Holiday, and close to being ready for Christmas. Just wondering, did anyone have any luck with our other holiday? That would be the hunting holiday season. If you have any pictures from your hunt, feel free to share any photos with us. New in this issue is a kid’s holiday fun section, see the last 3 pages to entertain your kids. Our member meeting on Tuesday the 20th of December, our cook that night, Kevin McCombs, is planning on making Ham Balls as the main course. Please reach out to Kevin if you plan to come so he has an idea of how much to make. His contact number to leave a message or text is 515-865-7292. Please try to let him know some time on Sunday or Monday at the very latest. We will be recognizing a couple of our own who work for the Iowa DNR Law Enforcement Bureau. Colonel Craig Cutts, Chief, and field officer(past RSO officer) Allen Crouse for their outstanding leadership with hunter education here at our chapter. I am sure that we will have some stories and updates from both of them.
It is with great sorrow that I am reporting the passing of Andy Johansen on Monday the 12th of December. Services will be held at Overton Funeral Home on Sunday the 18th at 3pm with visitation from 1 to 3pm. He was a long-time member of the Warren County Izaak Walton League and a very avid Trap Shooter and outdoor sportsman too. He will be missed by many.
A couple of upcoming events for January will be the Wild Game feed for our membership meeting on Tuesday the 17th. This is a potluck and I hope that we have some hunters in our membership that had some good luck this fall and can share some of their game food with the others. February is planned to be our Chili contest so please keep that one in mind as we will have some token awards (CA$H) for the top 3 winners and the diners overall favorite too. If you have questions, please call me at 515-229-7418 and I will do my best to get you an answer.
Just to update you on a couple of fundraising things that we have going on. One is if you purchase things on Amazon and go to their Smile.Amazon.com site and there you can find a way to make donations to a charitable group. We have one setup for the Warren County Ikes chapter. So, when you do the search for Izaak Walton League be sure to find the Indianola address and you can select that. Real easy to do and helps, each quarter we get a check from Amazon.
The other way we will be getting funds in January is from our local Hy-Vee store. When you purchase one of their reusable shopping bags we will receive a $1 donation for each one sold that month. So, pass that on.
The League’s yearlong 100th anniversary is coming close to an end, but that is no reason for us to stop the celebration. We need to continue to spread the word of our past achievements and what our future goals to others in the coming months, and years. Speaking of our 100th anniversary, if you are still looking for a Christmas gift for that hard person to shop for, how about giving them a 100th anniversary shirt, travel mug or water bottle? We still have these available in many sizes and colors. The cost of any one is $15 or purchase any two for just $25. If you would like to get one for a gift, Lisa can meet you out at the chapterhouse any afternoon after 4 pm M-F. .
Happy Holidays to All and hope you all have a safe, healthy New Year. Hope to see you soon.
